Lightning Swim Team General Information
The Courts and Ridges Lightning is a competitive swim program where our number one goal is to instill the enjoyment of swimming and team camaraderie in our swimmers. While having fun, kids will naturally improve stroke technique, performance times, and self-confidence.
The Lightning is a member of the Old Dominion Swim League (ODSL), http://www.odsl.net, consisting of neighborhood swim teams from Ashburn, Leesburg, Sterling, South Riding, and others. The swim team is open to children up to 18 years old who meet minimum swimming requirements. Practices are held daily during peak season. The Courts and Ridges pool is located at 20361 Susan Leslie Dive, Ashburn, VA.

Swim team 2012 season information was included with the Courts and Ridges Homeowners Newsletter.
Registration checks should be made payable to the Courts and Ridges Homeowners Association.
Parents will be required to volunteer on one of the following committees: Communication, Sponsorship, Concessions, Equipment Manager, Social Activities, Spirit wear/Swimsuits, and Volunteer Coordination. Sign-up sheets will be provided with the registration package and will be available during practices and meets.
Parents will be required to volunteer at 4 meets.
It takes many parents to run a meet. Volunteers at each meet must cover the following assignments: volunteer organizer, swimmer organizer, starter, referee, timers (3 per swimmer), runners (3), score clerk/recorder, and ribbon and label writers. At home meets, parents are also needed to set up, clean up, and work concessions.

Typical social activities include:
- Ice Cream Social: An ice cream social is held at the beginning of each season at the pool
- End of Season Awards Ceremony and Party: At the end of the season, an awards ceremony is held at the pool
Mandatory Parent Meeting
A mandatory Parent Meeting is held at the beginning of each season at the Courts and Ridges Community Clubhouse. An information package, including a team roster, practice schedule, meet schedule, and a calendar of events will be handed out to registered families. This is also an opportunity to meet the coaches and Swim Team Committee members.
